Toning & Vocal Exercises for Self-Healing Classes

Our newest Sound Healing program takes place over 4 experiential workshops. Come and experience the immediate, powerful, and tangible benefits that come with connecting with others through vibration, harmony and positive intention.

Rufus developed these workshops initially for Wellspring Cancer Support Centres. He has been working at 3 of Ontario’s Wellspring Centers (Downtown, Sunnybrook & Oakville) for over a decade facilitating HealthRHYTHMS workshops, and began offering Sound Healing workshops in all 3 centres in 2019.

Participants will be taught how to use the most powerful sound healing instrument of all – our own voices – with some easy and accessible toning techniques, overtone singing, vocalizations, and affirmations.

We will explore ancient toning techniques from China, India and Tibet. Stretching and vocalizing from the Qi Gong tradition in China help stimulate the release of stuck energy from the major organs. We will also invoke the Five Warrior Syllables, made even stronger by powerful breathing techniques, from the Bön Buddhist tradition – Tibet’s most ancient spiritual tradition. These “seed” sounds bring us to the essential nature of mind and release positivity and boundless creativity. The healing sounds we produce clear obstacles from our body, our energy and our emotions.

Toning is an ancient Vedic tradition from India, and toning with other people creates a sense of unity. It is simply creating a vocal sound with an elongated vowel for an extended period, and it has a neurochemical effect on the body, boosting the immune system and causing the release of endorphins. It also helps to release stress and repressed emotions, it assists in good breathing and posture, and has also been proven to be effective in relieving insomnia. Regular toning and humming re-energizes the body and restore health to the body, mind and spirit.

In the second half of each workshop, participants will be invited to relax on yoga mats to be bathed in sounds that come from a variety of sound healing instruments, such as crystal singing bowls, the didgeridoo, the frame drum, the ocean drum and tuning forks, to name but a few. These sounds can quickly produce the same downshifts in brainwave activity that experienced meditators benefit from. And while many of us are able to meditate for a few minutes, maintaining the meditative state of mind for more than 20 minutes can take years of practice. Fortunately, anyone can experience the health benefits from prolonged mental relaxation without knowing how to meditate. You only have to come to a good sound bath – it’s just that much easier.
